Soluble in hot water, ethanol, ether and chloroform, slightly soluble in cold water, soluble in sodium hydroxide solution, the aqueous solution is acidic and slightly bitter. The pH of saturated aqueous solution at 28 ℃ is about 5, and the pH of sodium salt in aqueous solution is 9. Toxic, half lethal dose (mice, oral) 1 · 4g/kg. It's irritating.
